Original Work
Description
As new original works are completed, I will post them on the website and in my Instagram feed. A typical piece is painted on custom-sized 0.5” or 0.75” high-quality birch plywood, primed with Michael Harding Non-absorbent Acrylic Primer. The acrylic paints used, are selected from: Winsor & Newton Professional Acrylic range, Golden Artist Acrylics or Liquitex Heavy Body Acrylics. If oil paints are used, they will typically be Winsor & Newton Artisan Water-Mixable Oil Colours or Michael Harding Artists Oil Colours with a range of thinners and oil painting mediums. The finished work is finally varnished with either Winsor & Newton Artisan Satin Varnish or Gamblin Gamvar Picture Varnish.
At the buyer’s preference, an original work will be framed with a hand-made frame. Smaller pieces would be framed in a ‘floater’ frame. My preference for larger pieces, is for a “St Ives frame" or "Nicholson frame" they both refer to the same type of framing. It was a style popularized by artist Ben Nicholson and other artists in the St Ives School, a group of abstract artists in Cornwall in the 1930s. I create these frames with a three-section profile and finishes them in a white satin finish to create a clean, modern look that complements very well the color and images in the art.
